Ferrovanadium is mainly used for smelting alloy steel. About 90% of the vanadium consumed in the world is used in the steel industry. Vanadium in ordinary low alloy steels mainly refines grains, increases the strength of steel, and inhibits its aging effect; in alloy structural steels, it refines grains and increases the strength and toughness of steel; in spring steel, it combines with chromium or manganese. With use, increases the elastic limit of steel and improves its quality; In tool steel, the main refinement of the steel structure and grain, increases the tempering stability of steel, enhances its secondary hardening, improves its wear resistance, extends The service life of the tool; vanadium also plays a beneficial role in heat-resistant steel and hydrogen-resistant steel.

 

Reduction of vanadium pentoxide with aluminum produces considerable heat, not only to complete the aluminothermal smelting process but also to add back to the furnace vanadium and iron crumbs to reduce the reaction temperature; add lime, magnesium sand, fluorite to reduce the viscosity of the slag; adjust the size of aluminum particles and vanadium pentoxide melting flake to reduce the speed of the reaction to reduce the loss of spattering and increase the yield of vanadium. Smelting with magnesium furnace lining, or with vanadium-iron slag knotted round reaction furnace cylinder. Smelting is by the lower ignition method. To reduce the vanadium content in the slag, immediately after the end of the reaction, electricity heating slag, so that the metal particles suspended in the slag sink, the vanadium oxides in the slag, and the residual aluminum continue to react to improve the vanadium recovery rate.
